Rainy Days and Water Conservation

It's raining here in Atlanta again. It sounds gorgeous, and it is definitely needed.
However I did just get my water bill and I'd like to try and lower it since it went up this month. As we are renting, we can't make any alterations to the apartment. I already run the washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full. Does anyone have any other tips that could help me cut down on about 10%-20% of our water use?

All comments are greatly encouraged and appreciated.

We're considering a water interrupt for our shower (basically a little knob or button that you push to stop the water while you shampoo or soap up)but if you can't add one on to your apartment you can do the same thing by turning off the water manually. I think they just screw on the pipe under the showerhead so you might be able to add it anyway. Also a small bottle of water in the toilet tank to displace some of the water can help.

at my house we keep a bucket in all the showers and let the water fall into it while waiting for the water to heat up and to catch whatever water falls in during the shower. once we fill the bucket, we put it into the washing machine with a load of laundry while it is filling up. To a lot of people this sounds gross, but it saves a TON of water and anyway, the clothes rinses with clean water after. you'd be amazed at how many gallons of water your washing machine uses

Here's another tip that sounds grosser than it really is: if it's yellow, let it mellow- when it comes to the toilet. That does make a big difference, although you should always flush before guests arrive!

Well, this may sound silly, but I still wash dishes by hand on a regular basis. I also think cutting back on the amount of laundry detergent helps because I can go with a less water and a shorter cycle, and the clothes rinse cleaner with less detergent build up.
